Spanish Guitar ads

Not every project turns out the way you want and in some cases it doesn’t turn out remotely what was intended. This does not mean all is loss. There are some positive things that come out of bad experiences and even some good experiences that come out of non-ideal scenarios. Sunny Knoll Publishing is great example of this. This client is a guitar collector who wants to share his collection with everyone. He isn’t just any guitar collector, but probably has the most historic and valuable collection in the world. His book was just blessed into the Pope’s library. This isn’t Les Paul we are talking about. These are classical guitars made by the industry’s finest in history.

As promising as this project could have been to promote this collection in book form, there was some obstacles to overcome and in some cases, road blocks. There was some success in selling this book about this prestigious guitar collection. However, the advertising could have been more effective. At the end of it the ads were more like advertorials. This was a personal endeavor for the client and there was a need to relay as much information as possible.

The approach I recommended was to develop a concise, coherent ad. A strong title that complements a strong image. Instead of trying to cram as much information about the product and confusing the viewer on what to focus on. The purpose was to focus the message that led to a call to action. The viewer will only spend a few seconds, or less, and there needs to obvious substance that connects with the audience. This collection belongs in a museum. I treated the design as such as though you saw a poster or reading a sign at the museum. I coupled this idea with advertising fundamentals that were just mentioned.

At the end of the day, after you express your expertise, you make the client happy. So you do what you can with what you got to make the best design possible. The finished products aren’t anything to write home about. I did get a couple of compositions, seen here, I thought were great. Over all, the process and outcome was not ideal, but look for the positive in the experience. Don’t waste the opportunity and make the most of it. To hold a two-million, one-hundred and twenty-nine year old guitar in your hands is an incredible experience and that is something to write home about.
